ISIS Claims Responsibility for Cairo Bombing

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack this morning in the Cairo suburb of Shubra Al-Khaima.
Six police officers were reportedly among the 29 people who were injured in the blast.
In a statement on Twitter, the Sinai-based ISIS branch “Sinai Province,” said that the attack was revenge for the execution of six defendants in the Arab Sharkas case in May 2015. "Let the apostates of the police and army, the followers of Jews, know we are a people who do not forget our revenge,” the statement said.
Human Rights Watch reported that the six defendants in the Arab Sharkas case were convicted for killing two armed forces officers during a shootout in 2014.
The explosion this morning was heard throughout the Egyptian capital, reportedly damaging a security building near the site of the attack and turning over cars and concrete street barriers. Security sources reported finding a burned-out vehicle and a large crater at the scene of the attack.


The attack this morning is one of many by Islamist terrorist groups since the ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood Morsi regime in 2013 by the Egyptian army.
The Sinai Province group has managed to kill hundreds of Egyptian soldiers and policeman since the coup by the Egyptian army led by Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sissi. Sissi has consistently led retaliatory attacks against ISIS affiliated terrorists in both Egypt and in next-door Libya as well.
